Above the Net fall flat

Above The Net were challenging for gold in community volleyball, now the best they can hope for is bronze.

The West Bay Sports Committee is staging the finals of the 2012 West Bay Community Volleyball League this Saturday, 21 April. The Sir John A Cumber Primary School hard court will stage the action from 6.30pm.

Above The Net were the reigning two-time champions behind talents like Nicholas Roberts, Nigel Ebanks and Kim Rivers. However they would be defeated in last Saturday’s league semi-finals by North West Point. The score read 25-15, 25-17 in favour of Jackie Bodden and company.

North West Point now battle the Jumpers for glory at 7.30pm this Saturday. The Jumpers, who feature prodigies Ileann Powery (daughter of Collie Powery, the brother of Carlon Powery) and Chante Smith-Johnson, took down Travis Stroup and team Wesleyan 26-24, 25-23. Above The Net and Wesleyan tussle for third place at 7pm.

The youth division of the league will see its final at 6.30pm between the Bayas and Wesleyan. The Bayas earned a bye through the first round after going through the regular season unbeaten at 6-0. The other youth side, Young Blazers, were defeated in the semis 25-23, 25-9 by Wesleyan.
