Lightning set to strike

Middleweight prospect Peter ‘Lightning’ Lewison has the burning ambition to be a world champion fighter within a few years, which is why he is not only is he in a contest on Saturday, he is promoting the whole show too.

Lightning, 24, will also be battling for two belt in only his third pro fight when he challenges Florida-based veteran Alex Perez at the D. Dalmain Ebanks gym. Lewison goes for the NBA belt and the WBC FECARBOX middleweight title.

Main support fight is between Americans Sammy Payne and Calvin Faggins over eight rounds for the NBA or WBC FECARBOX junior-welterweight titles.

Tickets are $25 general and $60 VIP. Wilky ‘Silky’ Campfort, who fought here last summer, has been sparring with Lewison and so too has light-heavy Olympic hopeful Dariel Ebanks. There will be around six bouts and musical performances by Black Ken and another local artist.

Lewison is pleased that he has sold over 900 tickets. Most attractive other local contest is between Thomas McField and Bruce ‘Lee’ Coulson at middleweight. Dariel may be matched too in his last fight before he goes to the Olympic qualifiers in Brazil next month.

Lewison said: “I’m really appreciative for my support and want to thank everyone who has helped. I’ve got a lot of sponsors, including National Concrete, Rhino Rebar, The Real Estate Company, Cayman Airways, Westin Hotel, Cayman Contractors Store, Botanic Park, Pedro Castle, Dean’s Cleaning, Coconut Rental, Al La Kebab, Celebrations, Candles Unlimited, Hibiscus Spa, Dr De Alwis, Cayman Safari, Cayman National Bank, Water Authority, Massive, AIE Rentals, Tony’s Toys and I’m hoping to get sponsorship from Digicel. I’m also doing stuff with Kirk’s Supermarket and helping promoting their Poweraid in commercials.”

“I have been totally dedicated in training for this fight as it will raise my world ranking to within the top 100. First and foremost, i would like to thank God for his guidance in the endeavour I am embarking on.

“The support that my sponsors give me adds strength and motivation to continue striving to be a better, stronger boxer, to better represent my country and to be a positive role model.

“I would also like to give my heart felt thanks and appreciation to the community for all their support for buying tickets for my fight.”
