Cayman’s Olympic swimmers recently did some training in Dublin, Ireland.
Shaune Fraser and Brett Fraser competed in the Florida Summer Sectionals at the Hall of Fame pool In Ft. Lauderdale, Florida as an assessment meet prior to their departure to Dublin for pre-Games training.
The meet went very well for them both, with Shaune winning the 200m freestyle in a time of 1:52.30 and younger brother Brett finishing close behind in a time of 1:52.49.
The boys arrived in Dublin on the morning of 16 July and began the first day of their training camp. The Fraser brothers are there with a few of their Florida Gator team-mates who will also compete in London for their respective countries; Venezuela, Iceland, Russia, Poland and Tunisia.
Ashley Stern, the physiotherapist for the Cayman Islands team for the first half of the Games, also accompanied them. While in Ireland, the swimmers will be resting and acclimatizing to the similar conditions that they will be subject to in London. The weather has been cool and rainy with the sun coming out on occasion, which they say is a nice change from the heat.
“It’s starting to settle in that the games are fast approaching and I am starting to feel more and more prepared each day,” says Brett Fraser.
The boys head into the London 2012 Olympic Village on Wednesday, 25 July. The opening ceremony is on Friday, 27 July, with the closing ceremony on 12 August. The Frasers are expected to compete in the men’s 200m freestyle, 100m free, 100m butterfly and 50m free from Sunday, 29 July, to Friday, 3 August.
