As women’s flag football winds down, the drama only intensifies.
The Grand Cayman Flag Football Association will be putting on week 12 of the 16-week Dart Women’s League at the Camana Bay sports field. Action begins on Friday, 17 August, as the HOT 104.1FM Cheetahs battle the Maples Bliss and the Zulu Warriors face the Burger King Wolverines at 8pm.
On Saturday, 18 August, Camana Bay hosts a double-header. At 10am, the Lone Star Jager Monsters face the Androgroup Killa-Panthers and at 11am the Subway Stingers battle the Hammerheads Lady Sharks.
The Cheetahs, with talents like Jennifer Cotarelo, are coming off a big 6-0 win over Zulu last Saturday and rank sixth out of the eight teams with three wins, six losses and one draw. Fellow rookie club Maples, who feature veterans like Malaqui Awe, are also 3-6-1 in fifth place and the side is on a two-game losing streak. Both newcomers want to solidify a playoff berth and Friday’s encounter figures to be critical.
Zulu, with veterans like Dionne Whittaker and Agueda Blake, are fourth at 6-4 and are in the middle statistics-wise, allowing 61 points while scoring 64. Burger King, behind star quarterback Antoinette Thompson, are second at 8-2 and have been the best team most of the season with 189 points scored and 31 points allowed (both are tops in the league).
Melanie Lewis and 1-7-2 Lone Star seem overmatched against Cassandra Bodden and 7-3 Androgroup and the league-leading 8-1-1 Lady Sharks, with star hurler Hong Nguyen, look poised for victory against Latoya Cover and 1-8-1 Subway.
