Weekender reported last week that in Britain the Royal Mail postal service had painted one traditional red pillar box in bright gold paint in the hometown of each gold medal winning athlete.
It seems that an over enthusiastic Olympics fan in south London got a little carried away this week and decided to take it upon himself to paint a post box gold in his neighbourhood. Unfortunately for him, even though he undertook his clandestine mission in the middle of the night, he was apprehended by police at 2.50am with a paint brush and a roller in his hands and bucket of gold paint on the ground.
When questioned by police the man said, “I’m sorry for what I was doing. It was meant to be a bit of fun and part of the Olympic fever.”
The post box remains half gold and half red, as the man was unable to complete the job he started before he was detained by the police.
