Remembering Rodney with sport, music

There’s a ton of ace events happening this weekend in memory of Rodney Bodden.

First off, on Friday, 17 August head to Automotive Art on 480 Shedden Road for the Absinthe Wet Fete. There’s gonna be mud, paint, a fire truck from the Cayman Fire Service to getcha wet and foam plus, of course, the famous drink.

Live performances are going to be delivered by Stuart Wilson, J Nez and Black Ken, we have learnt, and some of the DJs include DJ Von, Studio 1, DJ RKM and DJ Royal.

The start time is 9.30pm and admission is $5. “Come see the Green Fairy,” they say, “By having some absinthe.” Fine advice indeed.

The next day, Saturday, 18 August, sees a great All-star game at the Cox Outdoor Court on Eastern Avenue in George Town. That game kicks off at 7.30pm sharp and there’s also contests for slam dunk and three points – the winner of each getting a cool $100. Admission there is free, so no excuses. Better than that, even, there will be free dolphin swims and Dominos Pizza giveaways.

Three on Three = cash

On Sunday, 19 August we’ve got the 3 on 3 event at Kings Sports Centre, specifically happening at the rink indoor court. The first game kicks off at noon and again there’s oodles of prizes. First place for the dudes nets $800, second $600 and third $400. For the lasses first place is $500, second $400 and third $300.

Registration can be done on the day itself from 11am to 11.40am, but you’re strongly advised to register in advance at Winners Circle, Automotive Art and One 345 Swanky Shack.

To register, a team of four or fewer costs $30 for men and $25 for the women.

Spectators again get in free and again there’s prize giveaways, including free dolphin swims.
