UWC unveil plaque at primary school playground

George Town Primary School students are enjoying a new playground.

On Friday, the United World College movement in the Cayman Islands, along with school staff, unveiled a plaque in dedication of the new playground and to mark the 50th anniversary of the movement worldwide.

After raising more than US$57,000 for the new playground, the Parents Teachers Association of George Town Primary School in Grand Cayman, with the help of Davenport Construction and volunteers, upgraded the designated area and installed new equipment for the children.

United World College representatives said they hoped in the years to come, students would enjoy the shady area and have further cause to appreciate the nature of the Cayman Islands. They also said they hoped, like the UWC mission statement, students would “Make education a force to unite people, nations and culture for peace and sustainable future”.

Another major goal of the organisation is to further the cause of sustainability by planting new trees. It is hoped that this endeavour will not only provide a play area for students, but will also contribute to the preservation and expansion of natural spaces in Grand Cayman and beyond.
