Suite Elite is an established name on Cayman shores; the band’s ability to cross genres makes them an active unit here in paradise.
Weekender caught up with vocalist and manager Pam Burgess to ask her a few questions.
What have you guys been up to lately?
The band have had a busy schedule over the past few seasons due to our popularity skyrocketing in Cayman’s private, corporate and wedding event sector. I have been working close with Cayman’s major venues and event planners, plus travelling to the United States to promote the band and encourage potential clients to bring their events to the Cayman Islands. We have recently performed for prestigious visiting companies such as Lexus Motors, Siemens Group, Virgin Produced, The Presidents Club and Mercedes Benz. Cayman has so much potential growth in the entertainment market and Suite Elite’s goal is to continue to offer top quality entertainment that leave’s a lasting impression on the essential clientele visiting [Grand Cayman].
Can you describe the experience for people who’ve not seen you before?
Suite Elite’s high energy showcase is one of a kind in Cayman. At first impact you have a international line-up of industry professionals from Ireland, Jamaica, Cayman, Indonesia and England. This unique cultural blend facilitates a diverse showcase covering all genres of music, everything from jazz, blues, soul, reggae and Calypso to rock, pop, disco and Motown. Our sound quality, tightness and stage presence is also something that sets the band apart. We often get told our electrifying delivery belongs on the Vegas Strip, bringing that Vegas energy to Cayman’s audiences is something we are proud of.
Which songs does Cayman generally go mad for?
Timeless hits such as Shout by Lulu, Don’t Stop Believing by Journey, Moves like Jagger by Maroon 5 and our 70s and 80s disco/rock medleys always have our fans pounding the dance floor. One of our performances at a well known local venue had the crowd jumping up and down so mad that the dance floor cracked and caved in!
What’s the outdoor performance like in contrast to bar gigs?
When we perform outdoors for beach and pool side events we always have our air-fans on stage and lots of water for hydration. Performing in the heat and humidity certainly is a lot more tiring than being in the cool AC. Our equipment also needs cleaned after each outdoor show to prevent salt-air corrosion.
So what’s new?
Along with adding lots of new pop and rock tunes to our high energy set list, my piano player and I have been preparing a lounge jazz show ready to hit Cayman’s local hot spots in the upcoming season. You can see live footage of our jazz duo along with other band videos on our website.
Apart from the Paseo, where and when can we see you guys?
Suite Elite will be returning to Treasure Island on Saturday, 13 October, performing a rock-pop showcase and will continue with monthly concerts throughout the season. Our previous sell-out shows at Treasure Island were big crowd pullers and the band are excited to be back to rock-up the Seven Mile Beach strip once again.
Suite Elite will be performing at The Paseo, Camana Bay from 7pm on Friday, 21 September. Free entry.
