Cox pounced for Panthers again

It was national player Desrene Cox’s turn to take centre stage on Sunday as her Panthers team continued their unbeaten run in the Women’s Cricket League, defeating Greenies by 5 wickets.

Missing a couple of their top players, Greenies came out fighting reaching 72 for no wickets at the 10 overs interval. Cox had excellent figures of 4 overs for 9 runs. An excellent piece of fielding by Panthers’ Carneth Thomas saw her chase and retrieve a well struck ball from the backward square leg boundary. Thomas fired in a bullet return which found Greenies leading batter Carmel Harms short of her ground. Only Caroline Rotsey provided any further resistance as Greenies totalled 111 for 6 wickets.

Greenies were sensing making an upset with Panthers in trouble having loss 5 wickets for 45 runs. But an unbeaten 67 runs partnership between Desrene Cox 29n.o and Verryll Seymour 24n.o restored Panthers for another well-deserved victory.
