A local church has found a way of reaching out and connecting with Cayman Islands unchurched community through “Church at the Movies”.
Cayman International Assembly of God’s outreach missions will host the first Sunday service 20 January at Hollywood Theatre at Camana Bay, from 10am to 11am.
“The worship or music is more tailored to the non-churched or contemporary mind set. The teachings or messages are short and targeted to communicate more towards those with a non-church, non-Christian world view or perspective,” said David Tayman, lead pastor of the new church at the movies.
“The first two services in January are being called dress rehearsals and all are invited and encouraged to come and be a part while they work out the logistics,” he said.
He said the movie theatre is a unique environment for a church and provides a great place for people to gather who may have never passed through the doors of a traditional church building. Also the gatherings are more time-conscious with a particular sensitivity to the needs of young families with small children.
“We recognise that there are many working and living here in Cayman who can be categorised as non-churched Christians who have left homes and cultures where they were firmly established within their own Church communities, but have not been able to find a compatible church community locally. We not only feel the responsibility to reach these groups of unchurched Christians, but we also feel that it is necessary for us to find new ways of reaching out to the non-Christian community by providing opportunities for them to hear the message of Jesus Christ in ways in which they may have never heard it presented before and for many, for the first time, he said.
Dave and Robin Tayman have served as the lead pastor in over five congregations spanning from the Island of Nantucket to the Islands of the Exumas in the Bahamas.
They have ministered throughout the Caribbean, including the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. Dave has been serving most recently in the Cayman Islands as the associate pastor of the First Assembly of God and as the assistant to the general superintendent of the Assemblies of God in the Cayman Islands.
