Bail will be applied for, defence attorney says
Tareek Ricardo Ricketts, 21, appeared in Summary Court on Monday morning charged with the murder of Jackson Donovan Rainford following a shooting incident on the night of Sunday, 16 December.
Mr. Rainford, 23, was killed in a vehicle outside an address on Shedden Road in George Town, Crown Counsel Elisabeth Lees told Chief Magistrate Nova Hall.
His brother was with him at the time, she revealed, adding that further charges may be laid against Ricketts.
The defendant is also accused of possessing an unlicensed firearm, but details of that charge did not identify any specifics as to make or size.
Defence attorney Prathna Bodden advised that she would not be applying for bail on Monday.
It was envisaged that there will be a bail application, but she would wait for Grand Court, she said.
Because murder is a Category A offence, which means that it can be dealt with only in Grand Court, the charges were transmitted there immediately.
After discussing dates with attorneys, the magistrate set Friday, 11 January, as the date for Ricketts to appear in Grand Court.
He was remanded in custody until then.
