Ron Adams is swapping his Elvis Presley sequined jumpsuit for a flashy Rat Pack tuxedo when he performs at the annual Red Dress Gala this month.
At the glitzy affair that raises money for the Cayman Heart Fund, Adams will be channelling Dean Martin in a show that promises the “best of the Rat Pack”.
He will be appearing with Dave Seering, who plays Frank Sinatra, and Rodney Wilson as Sammy Davis Junior.
The show will reflect what used to happen when the über-cool and famous members of the Rat Pack had their own individual shows in Las Vegas in the ‘50s and ‘60s and the impromptu performances that would ensue when they crashed one another’s shows.
Adam’s entertainment company has been doing the Rat Pack Tribute show for about 18 months and it’s earning rave reviews.
“The Rat Pack Tribute show is very, very popular,” said Adams.
He has performed as Elvis twice in Cayman and thought he would shake things up a bit for next month’s performance and introduce the Rat Pack show to Cayman.
And while no-one will contest that Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr could hold a tune or two, a lot of the enjoyment of the Rat Pack came from watching the banter and jokes between the group. Adams promises his tribute show will be have plenty of that.
“Frank Sinatra would play at the Sands [hotel in Las Vegas] and when Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr had their own gigs, when they finished, they’d go over to Frank’s show because that started later. They would come over and jump up on stage and cut it up with him. That’s exactly what we will be doing,” said Adams.
“It’s all off the cuff. We all work together really well,” he added.
The Rat Pack and their entourage will be travelling in style after a friend loaned them a private jet to get to Cayman and they’ll be spending a few days here, enjoying the weather and meeting some new and old pals.
Adams and his fellow Rat Packers won’t be the only people providing Hollywood glamour at this year’s gala – the entire event has an Oscar theme this year and everyone is being encouraged to dress up as a Hollywood star.
The best dressed Oscar couple will win three nights at the Hard Rock Resort Hollywood in Florida, courtesy of Cayman Airways and Hard Rock Café Grand Cayman.
There will also be several silent auction items up for grabs, including a three-day cruise on Carnival Imagination, a trip for two on Cayman Airways to Miami Ritz-Carlton in South Beach, a Reef Resort Residential Club Package in Cayman, a one-night spa stay at the Westin Causarina Cayman Islands, paintings by CE Whitney, Maureen Lazarus, Avril Ward and Nick O’Neil, as well as fabulous jewellery items and spa and gym services.
A few tickets still remain. They cost $150 per person or $1,350 per table of 10. To book a ticket, email [email protected] or call 916-6324 or 925-1860.
