Woman dies after crash in West Bay

Update, 9am: The 42-year-old woman who died following Wednesday
night’s car crash in West Bay has been identified as Janet
Farrington-Martinez. Human resources manager Ms Farrington-Martinez was a
well-known figure within the United Democratic Party and was chairwoman
of the West Bay UDP.

A female driver died at Cayman Islands Hospital early Thursday morning almost five hours after her car smashed into a roadside pole in West Bay. 

In a statement released Thursday, police said the 42-year-old woman had been driving a 2001 Toyota Rav 4 on Mount Pleasant Road from the direction of Capt. Reginald Parsons Drive toward the Caribbean Bakery and Grocery at about 8.30pm Wednesday night, 27 February, when the vehicle veered off the road as she approached a slight right hand bend near Pleasant View Apartments. The vehicle then collided with a utility pole at the left side of the bend.  

Police had not released her identity as of press time Thursday. 

“The driver was coherent at the scene when the police and medics arrived.

She was later transported to the George Town Hospital by ambulance for further treatment. At the scene, officers observed that she had a laceration to her right foot and superficial wounds to her face,” the police statement read. 

She was later pronounced dead at the hospital at 1.10am Thursday. 

Police said they were continuing to investigate the incident.

  1. Something is very wrong here! People do not die from the injuries that have been described in the media. My guess is she either had a head injury or internal bleeding and it was missed! This needs further investigation for sure.
