Iron Man will share new diamond drama

Baseball lovers can now garner insight from a legend.

The Cayman Islands Little League Association is encouraging locals to attend the launch of Cal Ripken Jr.’s new book Monday.

Among the Little League officials pushing Ripken’s visit is adult co-ed softball coordinator Alan Markoff.

“It will be a chance to see and hear a Major League Baseball Hall of Famer,” Markoff said. “For teams that are playing tonight and have players wanting to go to see Ripken, feel free to back up the start time of the late game from 8.15pm to 8.30pm, but please coordinate that with the opposing team captain.”

The baseball legend will be speaking at Camana Bay’s Gardenia Court on Monday, 11 March, at 7pm. Ripken, 52, is here for the Cayman Islands launch of his children’s book titled “All-Stars: Wild Pitch”, part of a series aimed at kids age eight and up.

Ripken will be talking about his professional career with the Baltimore Orioles before signing copies of his books at Books and Books.

For the record, Ripken was a shortstop and third baseman in Baltimore for his entire 21-year career, which ended in 2001. Nicknamed “The Iron Man”, Ripken is best remembered for playing a record 2,632 straight games over 17 seasons, shattering the record of 2,131 contests.
