Cayman Islands immigration officers carried out the second repatriation of Cuban migrants so far in 2013 earlier this month.
Three men and two women were escorted home on 1 March by the Department of Immigration’s enforcement section, according to a news release issued by local authorities. This group had arrived in the Cayman Islands on 26 December, 2012, and was housed at the Immigration Detention Centre.
At the moment, there are 22 Cuban migrants remaining at the detention centre, which is a low-security facility used to house Cuban migrants until their repatriation or asylum appeals are decided.
