North Side legislator Ezzard Miller has denied any wrongdoing in connection with an allegation about his conduct during his time as chairman of the work permit board.
Suspended Electricity Regulatory Association managing director Joey Ebanks has called for an investigation into Mr. Miller and forwarded what he believes is evidence of misconduct to the police.
Royal Cayman Islands Police Service Commissioner David Baines, also chairman of the anti-corruption commission, confirmed: “A complaint has been received, which has been recorded by the anti corruption commission, and which will be subject to review in order to determine any evidence and credibility to the allegations of corrupt behaviour made.”
Mr. Miller said Thursday that he had done nothing wrong and was considering legal action against Mr. Ebanks for slander.
“I have not been notified of any investigations into me,” he said. “I have nothing to hide and I will cooperate fully with any investigation on the matter. “Joey, in my view, is again looking for a fight to detract from his own troubles,” he added. “I’m just not going to get involved in a fight with him. The matter is with my attorneys and will be dealt with appropriately.”
Mr. Ebanks was suspended from his role at the Electricity Regulatory Authority and was arrested by police on suspicion of theft and fraud earlier this month. He has yet to be charged with any offence.

Stir that pot till it stinks !
Well how I look at this is CARMA is for real. I keep saying that we have to watch or rejoicing about peoples down fall and digging pits. I believe there is more to come on many others. The white horse is riding around and stopping at peoples gates. This is what you Cayman representatives get for living so ridiciously bad with each other. ITS CARMA, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.
This pot only going get stinker.
KARMA is like a rubber band, you can only stretch it so far until it comes back and smacks you in the face and that sure can hurt…OUCH!!
Didn’t Ezzard say Bush should have stepped down out of respect when he was under investigation ? Well let’s see if he is willing to practice what he preaches.
The report would have seem more creditable if it was made before the reporter was accused.
NJ2Cay – You are not thinking clearly. What would Miller step down from? Miller said that Bush should have stepped down as premier but obviously would have, and has, remained an MLA.
It looks very poorly on Ebanks if he has had evidence of wrongdoing and failed to report it to the Commission all these years until it serves the purpose of deflection.
I see Speaker, I thought he was asked to step down completely not just as premier to focus on the investigation..
Actually, this was reported before. In 2009, 2011 and now once again.
Karma please.
And what’s all this about the white horse?
Or is that code for what you’re on?
Joey who did you report this to in 2009 and 2011? Are you saying that the Anti-Corruption Commission ignored your initial reports?
NJ2Cay – I think it is clear from all media accounts that Bush was being asked to resign as premier, and clearly the vote of no confidence resulted in his removal as premier but not as MLA. The reasons for the distinction are obvious:
1. As the premier or a minister you are responsible for the running of the government and therefore your continuance in office has a direct negative impact upon the reputation of the country and may taint any further dealings you have on behalf of the govt. It is far bigger news if the premier of a territory is arrested/charged than if a backbench MLA is arrested/charged.
2. As premier you have the ability to thwart the investigation through your influence and power while you continue in office. Witnesses may be intimidated, for example.
3. Being under criminal investigation will divert your attention from the affairs of the country to your own personal issues.
4. The people did not elect you to the position of premier or minister but they did elect you as an MLA.
Thanks for the clarity Speaker..
Speaker, it was reported to the police, just as I have done now, however, this time I have expanded the audience and media.
I have also made allegations in an email to the RCIP, about the 2011 ERA Audit. This, once again seems to have been ignored. I will treat this in the same way I have the Ezzard/Ritz/Work Permit issue. It seems to me, the only true way of ensuring fairness. All I’m asking the RCIP to do is review the evidence, submit the findings to the relevant office for review, if there is reason for charges, charge them. Don’t arrest on suspicion and then go insearch of the evidence. That, prevents the individual from a fair trial by jury as the jury pool is influenced by the media.
What’s good for the goose…
Joey – if arrests on suspicion prior to investigations being completed and charges laid prevents a fair trial there would be few fair trials in Cayman since that is the normal course of action in all but the most straightforward of cases.
If there are reasonable grounds for suspecting that Miller has committed an arrestable offence then he ought to be arrested.
Here we go again another politician in the news.If do an investigation an all the fat cat in immigration 80% would go to jail. Dont even mention these elected official 98% would go to jail.
It seems that Joey has just been nominated as a candidate for NS. The timing of this suggests he was trying to even things up for the race by having both Miller and him under investigation. Much will depend on what happens in the respective investigations before polling day.
