Guy Harvey, founder of the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, recently addressed the students of the Sir John A. Cumber Primary IB World School on the subject of marine life in the Cayman Islands as part of Earth Month.
He was assisted by Stacie Syberma of the same foundation.
The presentation focused on the protection and conservation of groupers, tiger sharks, snappers and marine parks.
He talked about the methods used to gather information on them and their importance to the marine ecosystem. He also educated them on the lion fish and how its invasiveness negatively affects marine life.
Mr. Harvey stressed the need to conserve the marine parks and discussed some actions that can be taken to achieve this. The presentation was interactive and it generated several interesting and practical questions from the over 500 student body.
