Little League aiming to close out

Mother Nature can only slow down batters for a little while.

This Saturday, 8 June, will be the conclusion of the 24th season of Little League Baseball in the Cayman Islands. The finale was initially scheduled for last Saturday at Field of Dreams, but was postponed due to inclement weather.

The fun starts at 8.30am with T-ball action and All-Star games, followed by their team awards under a big tent at 10am. It will continue with game times at 10.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 4.30pm and the raffle prize drawing at 6.30pm.

Everyone will get a game, varying from mixed team games to home run derby, aged appropriately, which will run simultaneous to All-Star action. Awards by division follow at noon, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm in order of age with Pony, A, AA, AAA and girls players getting their praise at the same time.

League President Jeff Pouchie will be assisted in the master of ceremony duties by Rob Harris and Jeremy Rice. Each division coordinator will introduce the coaches, who get a few minutes to talk about their team’s season together.

All T-ballers are winners, as game scores are not kept and all will receive a trophy. Other divisions’ playoff winners get a trophy. Each team will recognise their “Best Sportsman” and “Most Improved” award winners. Each player receives a team photo, hot dog and drink.

Raffle tickets will be on sale. A $10 dollar ticket can win $10,000. The usual canteen fare will be enhanced by snow cones, cotton candy and pizza. Field No. 4 will host a bouncy castle with dry slide and baserunning activities.

From here, the adults will light up the fields. The Cayman Islands Little League Association 2013 Adult Fall League is scheduled to start on 22 July with the captain’s meeting
on 8 July.
