Elderly tourist dies on dive


Update, 10:40am: The 80-year-old
tourist who died on Sunday 7 July, whilst diving off Cayman Brac, can be named
as William Lemuel Lawson JR, of Temple Terrace, Florida, US There would
appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.


An elderly tourist died on a dive Sunday afternoon in Cayman Brac.

According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police, a report was received about 4.15pm Sunday of a male diver, 80, found floating near the double wall dive site north west of the Brac.

The US national was with a group of divers at about 3:20pm Sunday he was seen floating by a member of the diving boat crew who alerted other divers. He was removed from the water and taken on a diving boat where he was given CPR and other first aid assistance.

Police said the man was then transported to Brac Reef Dock where further CPR was given by medical personnel from Faith Hospital. He was subsequently  taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No foul play is suspected, police said.
