The UBS Aces came into the postseason with all the momentum.
The squad finished first place in the C League of the 2013 Fall Adult Coed Softball League, put on by the Cayman Islands Little League Association. After losing to finalists Dart, UBS now find themselves one defeat away from going home in the double-elimination playoffs. Up next for the Aces is a showdown with second seed Saxon G-Force on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. on field three.
League coordinator Alan Markoff summed up the group’s current playoff picture.
“With regard to the C League round robin format, Dart already advanced to the final, no matter what they do in their last game,” Markoff said. “They will play the winner of next week’s UBS vs. Saxon game. If Dart wins its final game, the final will start at 6:30 p.m. and a second game would be played if Dart loses the first game.”
A number of players have excelled for those teams. UBS have relied on the likes of Jason Wong, Karl Preuss and Benoit Ouellette this season, Saxon featured Casey Goff, Jim Beisel and Charles Pait while Dart leaned on Dario Rivers, Dwayne Lee and Jerome Tivey.
UBS are coming off a 21-13 defeat to Dart last Tuesday, after beating Hemant Balgobin and the Fluff and Fold Home Gas Misfits in the opening round. Saxon rebounded from a 16-15 defeat to Dart to clobber Misfits 18-3 last Wednesday.
A number of contests will offer playoff drama this week, outside of the C League, at the Field of Dreams facility. Doug Harrell, Vaughan Smith and KPMG A will be defending their top flight title in the A League championship game on Thursday, Nov. 7. They face the winner of Monday’s A.L. Thompson’s Hammers-Tower Marketing Titans contest, which takes place at 8 p.m. on field four.
Monday also sees the B League in action as Kenneth Davis and the BritCay Premiums face Joe Jewitt and the Master Batters at 6:30 p.m. on field three and Blake Nienhuis and the Al La Kebab Hitmen challenge Shayne Howe and the Phoenix Hard Hats on the same field at 8 p.m.
