Search launched for passenger missing from cruise ship

UPDATE. A search for a 65-year-old man reported missing on board a cruise ship continued on Tuesday night.

Police said they received a report Tuesday of a missing person from the Independence of the Seas cruise ship which was docked in George Town harbor.

According to police, the passenger was reported missing by his wife at 7.25 a.m. that morning.

The couple are both nationals of Canada.

Both retired to bed about 1 a.m. Tuesday morning and when the wife awoke at 7.15 a.m., her husband was not in the room, police said.

“She searched for him and when she did not find him she made the report of her husband missing at about 7:25 a.m. At that time the ship was headed into George Town Port,” a police statement said.

The ship was searched and CCTV viewed but the man was not found.

The Police Marine Unit also conducted a search of the area up until low light without success.
