Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, the hotel chain slated to come to Cayman on the site of the former Courtyard Marriott, was included in Fortune’s 2014 “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.
It is the fifth time the San Francisco-based boutique-style hotel chain is on the list. This year Kimpton ranks No. 21 after jumping seven spots.
Kimpton is the highest ranked hospitality company in the U.S., and the only one in the top 50 to be recognized for its continuous dedication to creating a transparent and engaging workplace, which are key factors in the ranking.
“We have the best employees in the world,” said Mike Depatie, CEO and president at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. “I’m humbled every day by the authentic care they show our guests and the intuitive, unscripted service they deliver. Inclusion on the Fortune ‘Best Companies to Work For’ list validates their spirit and heartfelt approach to taking care of people, and our commitment to creating an environment where our employees want to come to work each day.”
The Kimpton chain operates 62 hotels in the United States and is planning to double that number over the next five years. The Cayman hotel is Kimpton’s first overseas project.
In September, Dart received planning permission to go ahead with its US$200 million Kimpton resort development on Seven Mile Beach. The development was made possible after the demolishing of the former Courtyard Marriott and the closure of a section of West Bay Road in exchange for Dart extending the Esterley Tibbetts Highway into West Bay.
The resort project consists of two 10-story buildings, one for a 265-room hotel and one containing 61 condos, as well as six beachfront bungalows. The hotel will feature five restaurants and lounges, including a restaurant in the lobby and one on the rooftop. The planned opening date for the hotel is late 2016.
In addition to being named a top employer by Fortune magazine, Kimpton recently earned a 100 percent score for workplace equality for the 10th year in a row by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
