Another devastating spell of fast bowling by captain Troy Taylor took By Rite to their third win and the championship of the first Cayman Premier League tournament.
Taylor’s figures of six for 36 followed his first six-wicket haul during the last match. Taylor returned for his second spell after Gold Sharks had a reasonably good start with contributions from Dave Holness (45), Ricardo Roach (38) and Kirkpatrick Clarke (35). Bowling with accuracy and pace, Taylor picked up five wickets for eight runs, earning man of the match honors.
A controlled innings of 69 runs by Ainsley Hall with excellent support from Omar Willis (38) and Devon Williams – 20 not out – led By Rite to a comfortable victory by five wickets. The final scores would read Gold Sharks 188 for nine with By Rite at 189 for five.
Greenies recorded their first victory in the Cayman Premier League, defeating Blue Dragons by two wickets. In a reduced match (40 overs) due to a wet outfield, the Blue Dragons team was limited to 90 runs for nine wickets. Ryan Bovell’s four-for-12 and Bruce Wentzel’s three-for-21 were the best Greenies bowlers.
Wayne Cato’s four wickets for Blue Dragon were not enough as Wentzel (21) and Bovell (20 n.o) led Greenies to victory. The final score read Blue Dragons 90 for nine with Greenies 92 for eight and Bovell was named man of the match.
