A large number of Cuban migrants who were being held at the Immigration Detention Centre in George Town Monday escaped, according to immigration officers.
The break-out from the center, which is a low-security holding facility for migrants who land illegally on Cayman’s shores and are awaiting repatriation, happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Immigration and police officers were dispatched to the scene and managed to round up 24 of the 25 escapees in the general area.
One of the migrant escapees was still at large late Monday.
