A tourist couple took a wrong turn that landed their rental car in swampland just off the Esterley Tibbetts Highway Monday morning.
Police received a call about the mishap at around 7:30 a.m. Police Constable Donovan Chong explained, “They reversed and the vehicle just slid into the side of the lake.”
The couple, who are on vacation, tried reversing the Ford Explorer off the highway, but the truck slid and tilted into the swamp water, according to police.
The couple were not injured, police said.
Staff from a towing service worked to remove the vehicle.
