Some progress expected on April 14
There may be progress the next time three men appear in Grand Court on charges arising from the New Year’s Day robbery of Diamonds International in downtown George Town, Justice Charles Quin was told on Friday.
Attorney Irvin Banks said he had received papers in the case just the previous evening and would need time to discuss them with his client, Jonathan Mark Ramoon. Ramoon had been represented by another attorney, but in February the court was advised that he was seeking alternative representation.
The other accused are James Herbert McLean, represented by attorney Fiona Robertson, and Christopher Julian Myles, who is represented by attorney John Furniss.
The men are charged with robbing the waterfront store of jewelry valued at more than $750,0000, and being in possession of a firearm with intent to commit robbery. The men have not yet entered their pleas.
Crown Counsel Marilyn Brandt explained what progress had been made so far.
Justice Quin set the matter for 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 14.
As on a previous occasion, proceedings were moved from an upstairs courtroom to Court 3 on the ground floor to accommodate Ramoon’s wheelchair. He was injured after being chased down by Police Commissioner David Baines in his car immediately after the incident.
