Olsey J. Corn passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at White Oak Manor-Spartanburg after fighting a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Savannah, Grand Cayman, on Aug. 6, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John Jackson Sr. and Vernice Thompson Jackson.
She continued her education and training at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida where she earned her degree as a registered nurse.
In 1955, she married James D. Corn and moved upstate, where she pursued her work in all areas of nursing, including earning a BS degree from Limestone College in Gaffney. Her professional career ended when she retired from teaching health careers at Daniel Morgan Vocational School in Spartanburg. Mrs. Corn loved golf, crocheting, pets, and travel while having two children, Jim II and Jamie.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James D. Corn, Sr.; son, James D. Corn, Jr. of Kings Mountain, NC; daughter, Jamie E. Corn of Tryon, NC; and brother, John H. Jackson of Fort Myers, FL. She was predeceased by a sister, Jewel Higginson.
Visitation will be noon to 12:45 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., at the Chapel, conducted by Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
