Credit card case sent to Grand Court

A man charged with fraudulent use of credit cards was remanded in custody after appearing in Summary Court on Monday.

The matter is one that can be heard only in Grand Court, so Magistrate Valdis Foldats transmitted the case of Kok Keat Lee, a Malaysian national, to the higher court, where he is scheduled to appear on May 9.

Lee, 30, is accused of dishonestly obtaining money transfers totaling $2,274.47 between April 18 and 25 by falsely representing that credit cards he used were valid and authorized for payment.

The location of the alleged offense was not specified in the charge. A police press release referred only to a George Town establishment.

Crown Counsel Candia James did not provide any background to the charge.
