Focus will soon shift back to the Panthers in local flag football.
The Cayman Islands Flag Football Association is launching its annual adult summer league on June 21 at the Ed Bush field in West Bay. The opening Jamboree is slated for June 14. The competition features male and female divisions. The deadline to enter a team, along with preliminary rosters, is May 31. There are registration fees of $850 for each men’s team and $600 for each women’s squad.
Last season, the Burger King Panthers won its first championship in franchise history under the exploits of quarterback Chris Lucas. On the ladies side, the Androgroup Killa-Panthers prevailed and claimed their first title behind the likes of Alicia Dixon.
The coming season will see a few organizational changes. Each side will be responsible for having one person serve on the league’s team representative board, which serves to vote on various league matters as they arise.
Each team will supply at least two people to serve as referees to ensure there is a healthy rotation of available match officials. Each squad will have at least one person assist with stat-keeping. Clinics will be held for officiating (the weekend of June 14) and stat-keeping (at a later date).
