Sticks come out for series of games

The Cayman Field Hockey’s annual tournament is on this weekend and teams from Jamaica and England will be competing.

Captaining the Cayman women is the outstanding Sarah Pinches with Patricia Hildred as vice-captain.

All Cayman field hockey fans are invited to pitch at the Cayman International School on Saturday and Sunday and there is still a chance for anyone to play in this fun-filled event.

On the Cayman mixed team, the exceptional captain Mark Williams will be leading the way against the Jamaican and UK Legless. The Cayman men will be captained by Barry Craine with Miles Perryman as vice-captain ensuring all strategies are in place to win. Ivan Burges will be minding goal impeccably as usual.

The tournament began four years ago with the Alex Horner Cup. The Alex Horner trophy match is played between Cayman and Jamaica to commemorate the premature passing of one of Cayman’s finest female players, Alex Horner.

The closing ceremony at 12.30 p.m. on Sunday hopes to see the Alex Horner trophy held by the triumphant Cayman team for the second year in a row.

Cayman Islands Field Hockey Club plays twice a week, 5 p.m. on Tuesdays at Cayman Prep & High on Smith Road and 6 p.m. on Saturdays at the field in Camana Bay and all are welcome.
