The following are a few things that I am very concerned about:
Roads
I am concerned about the unevenness and drops on the sides of our main roads. This is very dangerous for all road users. I believe the sides of the roads should be even with the adjoining properties. On many of the roads, there are many potholes which are very dangerous, especially where there is no lighting; these roads need to be resurfaced.
On many of the roads, we need more lighting. This would be appreciated by pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. There is also a lot of flooding in areas – in some areas several feet high. Children cannot get to school and people cannot get to work, etc. I am asking for the government to please look into this as a high priority. Employees from the National Roads Authority could drive through each district and/or perhaps they could use the helicopter to help locate these areas. This is a very serious issue. How much is this going to cost our government to put drains in these areas? Something has to be done immediately. It is now our rainy season and hurricane season. Let us do something about this issue.
There is a hidden drive on the new bypass, which I was hoping would be painted but I would like to suggest putting reflectors on this pavement as this is very near to a lane and could easily cause an accident.
Signs
We also need more “No littering” signs throughout our districts and more permanent garbage bins placed on each street. This will hopefully help to alleviate the litter problem. We need to keep our streets clean.
We also need more litter fine signs. If dumpsters could be placed and maintained in strategic locations within our districts is also a good idea. This would help the people because they would have some place to take their refuse to; then they would not be placing it in their yards or on the roadsides. We should also focus more on recycling.
We also need more speed limit signs and “no speeding” signs urgently and perhaps more speed bumps.
Centennial Park
This park is used by locals, residents and visitors every day. I have recommended on numerous occasions to put canopies over the tables but to no avail. The tables are now being destroyed, with steel being exposed. The blocks in the pavement are loose and someone could fall and get hurt badly.
Last but not least, I would like to compliment the West Bay District Committee for their efforts in the district.
