The club squash league returns this week with a new sponsor and defending champions DMS hope to impose their dominance on the opposition for a third season.
The Baker Tilly Corporate Squash League will have some new blood and there will certainly be more titanic battles in both singles and doubles matches.
The 10 teams competing at the South Sound Squash Club are Baker Tilly, Samson & McGrath – aka S & M Mixed Breed – Harmonic Hitters, Sea Elements, UBS, DMS, Digicel Diehards, KPMG Kobras, KPMG Racketeers and The Directors.
Neil Stone-Wigg heads up DMS and multiple junior champ Julian Jervis is the main player in the Digicel Diehards.
There are four playing positions for A, B, C and D level players. This helps to give everyone a chance to be part of a team and ensures there are few mismatches.
The individual matches are followed by one doubles match between two of the A,B or C players.
If the match score is 2-2, then the result is determined by the outcome of the final doubles match.
The doubles format is difficult and court space is tight for four people wielding rackets, but it is great fun and builds good camaraderie.
Some teams will be fielding Cayman’s best juniors to give them fantastic experience and to help them grow as players and build on the training they have been putting in the last few years.
Matches will be played on Thursday nights starting on Oct. 9 at 6.30 p.m. and run for eight weeks.
There is food and drinks for team members and supporters each week. Coach Mark Chaloner said, “The South Sound Squash Club is buzzing with excitement for the new season.”
