Cumber triple delighted

Sir John A. Cumber Primary and George Town Primary renewed their traditional rivalry in the CUC Primary Football League and Girls’ Primary Football League over the weekend.

Saturday’s matches at the TE McField Annex not so long ago would be the highlight of the season for both schools but so far it’s been more of a learning year for both sets of coaches who have been blending in a number of new players and youngsters.

In the Group A Under-9 encounter, Sir John A. Cumber Primary’s defender Matthias McLean got the game’s only goal in the 35th minute as he hit a high, looping shot that deceived stand-in goalkeeper Jeru McField and bounced in, much to the delight of McLean’s West Bay teammates.

That misjudgment by McField was his only blemish in a stellar performance.

In the GPFL, Sir John A. Cumber Primary’s girls found George Town difficult to breakdown but Rianna Jackson scored in the 37th minute for a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

In the morning’s feature game, the U-11s from Sir John A. Cumber made it a complete sweep with a 3-0 victory over George Town Primary thanks to goals from Taron Ebanks (5th minute), Rashaad Powery (19th) minute and Arthur Fredericks (43rd).

Despite the losses, George Town showed tremendous spirit in their games.

Other PFL results in Group A included St. Ignatius Prep 2 vs. Cayman International School 3 (U-9) and St. Ignatius Prep 4 vs. Cayman International School 1 (U-11)

In the other Group A game in the GPFL it was St. Ignatius Prep 2 vs. Cayman International School 0.

In Group B of the PFL, it was Cayman Prep 6 vs. Bodden Town Primary 0 (U-9); Cayman Prep 7 vs. Bodden Town Primary 1 (U-11); North East Schools 1 vs. South Sound Schools 0 (U-9); North East Schools 3 vs. South Sound Schools 2 (U-11); Triple C 0 vs. Red Bay Primary 3 (U-9); Triple C 1 vs. Red Bay Primary 1 (U-11) and Prospect Primary 1 vs. Cayman Brac 2 (U-11).

In the GPFL Group B games, the results were Cayman Prep 4 vs. Bodden Town Primary 0 and Triple C 1 vs. Red Bay Primary 0.

Regular season fixtures conclude this Saturday with games at Savannah Primary, Bodden Town Primary, Cayman International School, Triple C, the Old Man Bay Field in North Side and the Annex Field.

The playoffs kick off the following week at the Annex.
