A tennis court is under construction at Camana Bay to host a legends tournament featuring world stars like Andy Roddick and Anna Kournikova.
Dart is spending $180,000 to build the new court at Festival Green ahead of the tournament, which coincides with the Cayman Alternative Investment Summit in February.
Dominic Ross, community development officer for Dart Enterprises, said the court is being built specifically for the tournament, but it will be made available to residents and guests after the event.
Temporary seating for around 1,000 spectators is being brought in for the legends tournament, which also features former major winners Jim Courier and Lindsay Davenport.
Mr. Ross said it is possible the court could be adapted for other sports and used for big events.
He said the setting of Camana Bay should provide a spectacular backdrop for the two-night tennis exhibition on Feb. 13 and 14. Planning approval was granted for the construction of the tennis court last month.
The Legends tournament was previously hosted at The Ritz-Carlton courts, but Dart decided to build the court so it could be held on-site.
“We just wanted to showcase it here at Camana Bay,” said Mr. Ross.
