Spikers want more teams to join beach fun

The Sunday Beach Volleyball League has commenced after much anticipation and the third week of matches will be played this weekend at Public Beach.

This series lasts for six weeks and there are 30 teams in three divisions. Any teams that missed registering can still join, cost $125. The new volleyball administration is keen to get more people playing the beach game and so far the response has been good. Mixed gender matches are played at 11 a.m. and 2.30 p.m.

Week 1 winners were Moby Dick, Four Stars and Regenexx. Week 2 winners were Notorius DIG, Nice Tips who defeated Serving Under The Influence and Who Throws A Shoe who beat Caymanite.

The weekly winners get a bucket of beer sponsored by Corona and a chance to move up a division and stay in the fight for the finals.

The league ends on March 29 with a big beach barbeque fundraiser party on Seven Mile Beach. Grand prize for the winners will be announced shortly.

Meanwhile, Cayman is preparing to host the opening tournament of the NORCECA beach volleyball tour for the fourth consecutive year at Public Beach. It is on April 24-26.

Online registrations are provided by www.caymanActive. Go to www.civf.ky to register early for the next league.
