The 2015 Barcadere Classic fishing tournament concluded last weekend after 21 boats entered with a total of 64 anglers registered to fish. Sponsors pledged more than $32,000 in cash and prizes.
Azzan Sherief on Just N Time was the tournament’s top winner with the single largest prize of $5,000 for a 52.3 pound wahoo, but there were many winners in different categories.
Other winners included Samara Persaud on Hog Heaven for heaviest dolphin of 26.7 pounds ($2,000) and Derron Kelly on I$I for heaviest tuna of 60.2 pounds($2,000). This year the tournament was run over two weekends to give anglers a better chance and a wider weather window.
Proceeds from a silent auction were donated to the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, which organizers Barcadere Marina supports for its efforts into scientific research and innovative educational programs that encourage conservation and best management practices for sustainable marine environments. It raised $1,176 during the awards night at the George Town Yacht Club on Tuesday.
Neville Scott of Barcadere Marina said, “I would like to thank all who supported the tournament and/or participated, including the captains, anglers, spectators, angling club officials and particularly the sponsors for their generous contributions without which the tournament would not be possible.”
Next up, the Barcadere Marina is hosting the angling club’s Cayman Islands International Fishing Tournament from April 16-19. Registration will be at the George Town Yacht Club on the evening of April 14.
