Smith and Cato lionized as Cubs become champs

SOL Cubs are the Division 2 League champions after defeating Cayman Brac over the weekend by 5 wickets. Cayman Brac batted first and ran into early trouble, losing 5 wickets for 84 runs.

A solid 90 run partnership between Chris Gayle (53) and Newton Lowe (24) gave Cayman Brac a reasonable total of 186 runs.

Two half centuries from Gregory Smith (57) and Darren Cato (56) gave SOL Cubs a convincing victory.

Division 2 T20 Knock Out begins on Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Oval and Smith Road Oval. Defending champions Supermix – formerly JJ’S – begin their defense against the unpredictable Mango Tree.

In a Division 1, 50 overs knock-out match Police led by a master class century from veteran national player Pearson Best with 118 not out, defeated Prison by 51 runs and booked their passage to meet league champions Greenies 1 this weekend. By Rite comes up against Sol Tigers in the other semifinal.

In the women’s league, Panthers moved to the top following a decisive victory over Strikers at the Smith Road Oval. Strikers were limited to 80 runs. It was easy sailing for Panthers, with Wyvonne Forbes on 47 not out in the 7 wicket victory.
