Three in drug canoe case due in court Monday

Three men will appear in court Monday, charged in connection with importation of drugs and landing illegally in Grand Cayman.

The men were arrested Friday morning in West Bay following a police hunt for four men who were spotted on board a fast canoe off North Side on Sunday, Oct. 25.

According to police reports, officers on board the Niven D. marine police unit boat chased the canoe. Police said they recovered packages of ganja, thrown from the boat. The canoe was later found abandoned on a beach in North Side.

Among the three men arrested is a man identified by police as Jade Brown. Police last week issued a photograph of Brown, taken from his ID which was found in the canoe.

The three men, ages 32, 42 and 43, were formally charged over the weekend by the Drugs and Serious Crimes Task Force with illegal landing and importation of ganja.

Initial police reports said there were four people on the canoe. The Drugs and Serious Crime Task Force are continuing their search for the remaining occupant of the canoe or anyone assisting the boaters.

Police recovered the fast canoe in North Side following a chase on Oct. 25 and launched a search for its four occupants.
