Early track meet for Track & Field Championships

Cayman’s track athletes are starting their season early. A meet will be held next month, not in the new year as usual.

The 2015 Private Schools Association Track & Field Championships is taking place Dec. 14 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

Defending champions Cayman Prep will rely on 2015 CARIFTA Games bronze medalist Dominic Dyer to lead their charge in defense of their title. Runners-up St. Ignatius Catholic will rely on Lacee Barnes (2015 Island Games gold and silver medalist), Isaiah Robinson (2015 CARIFTA Games rep) and Karim Murray (2015 Island Games bronze medalist in the men’s 200 meters) to dethrone the champions.

They will be competing for the Murray Westerborg Championship Trophy. Other top athletes competing for their respective schools are Valeska Bennett, Jaden Francis, Stephanie Boothe and Bianca Meghoo.

At last year’s meets, Cayman Prep won both the overall Champions Trophy and the Big Schools Trophy titles.

Cayman International School won the Small Schools Trophy.

The meet starts at 9 a.m.
