Prep and CIS bounce from nowhere to final

A netball rally was hosted by Cayman International School last Wednesday at the Arts and Recreational Center.

The other competitors were Cayman Academy, Triple C, Cayman Prep and High and St. Ignatius.

After four rounds of matches, it came down to Cayman Prep against CIS in the final. These teams were seen as underdogs this season. When up against more advanced teams, Cayman Prep and CIS played their best but would often fall short of the win. However, this was not the case in this tournament. Cayman Prep won the final 3-1.

A friendly match of coaches against students was played to close off the event as members of the teams came together and displayed their excellent sportsmanship.

The coordinator of this year’s event, coach Jayme Farrell, who is also the CIS coach, was happy to put it together.

“We want to create an atmosphere where these girls can come together and compete not just to win, but to learn and grow in the sport of netball,” Farrell said.

“We also want to help promote girls in sports on the island and a tournament like this helps to support and promote our girls and encourage them to excel.”

Farrell thanked The Grand Cayman Marriott for sponsoring the tournament and for providing the gold medals for the winning team.

The five teams in the netball rally showed excellent sportsmanship.
