Cayman fashion designer goes global

Cayman-based fashion designer Isy Obi recently signed a major deal to increase sales of her must-have women’s wear collections. She is partnering with a global online manufacturing platform to sell her clothing line direct to customers.

Her luxury brand, Isy B., is the latest upscale designer label to now sell direct to shoppers using the made-in-the-USA online sales platform and retailer, Nineteenth Amendment.

Noted for its sophisticated yet wearable creations, the Isy B. brand is also known for its chic, yet versatile, island-inspired outfits. Signature touches include custom prints, luxurious fabrics and fine finishing. The overall look is one of cosmopolitan relaxed elegance infused with a unique Cayman flair.

This latest partnership is a savvy move by the independent designer and will allow the eponymous label to be easily accessible to more than 6 million shoppers monthly at the click of a button. The collaboration with the high-fashion Manhattan-based online retailer comes just weeks after the finalization of the sales platform’s partnership with major U.S. retailer Macy’s and is likely to increase the brand’s market share in terms of overall sales.

Nineteenth Amendment, named after the U.S. statute that gives women the right to vote, was established to give talented designers a global platform from which to launch their collections in a cost-effective, customer-friendly and technology-efficient way.

Modern Tribe

Isy B’s. latest fashion-forward collection, the “Modern Tribe,” features prominently on the website and is inspired by the natural beauty and diversity of Cayman.

According to the brand’s creative director and designer, Cayman’s modern tribe is creating “rich new traditions drawing from the heritage of those have who migrated to the islands in centuries past and the diversity of the islands flora and fauna.”

Influenced by the Cayman Islands’ people, culture, architecture and natural environment, the collection draws freely from the imprint of successive waves of global nomads throughout Cayman’s history who have added their influences and tastes to the islands’ melting pot.

“I am thrilled to be able to offer this collection through Nineteenth Amendment,” said Obi. “As an independent fashion designer, it is almost impossible to reach a broad audience or have my garments made economically. Nineteenth Amendment captures the spirit of my collection, lets me sell directly to customers globally, and ensures exceptional quality through small-batch manufacturing by master craftspeople in the U.S.”

Created as a convenient and forward-looking alternative to traditional industry business models, Nineteenth Amendment provides not only retail distribution and manufacturing, but also guidance on merchandizing and look books, PR and marketing support, and access to a network of peers and retailers.

Nineteenth Amendment CEO Amanda Curtis said, “We’re thrilled to welcome Isy B. to our designer collective and look forward to helping her make the most of her Nineteenth Amendment experience in the months to come.”
