Junior golfers in Cayman show off skills

Over the course of the six-round Digicel Junior Golf Series, 50 junior golfers have been matching their abilities at North Sound Golf Club.

The series, which has been successful in introducing the junior players to regular competitive golf, culminated in the final round at North Sound Golf Club on Sunday where 30 young golfers battled it out in blustery conditions.

Cayman Golf Association Vice President James Walton thanked the sponsors and volunteers and said, “I think this series was a great success. “We look forward to seeing the benefits gained through regular tournament experience when our junior national team heads to Barbados for the Caribbean Amateur Junior Championships in July.”

April 17 results

In the April 17 Round 6 results, in the Boys 18 Holes White Tees, Andrew Jarvis was in first place, and Justin Hastings in second, while in the Boys 18 Holes Red Tees, Todd Purton was in first place, James Bould in second and Derek Penne in third.

In the Girls 18 Holes category, Holly McLean placed first and in the Girls 9 Hole, Tabitha Hawkins was first.

In the Boys 9 Hole Red Tees, Danny Lyne placed first, Luke Dodson and Zach Brooks thirds.

In the Boys 9 Hole Junior Tees, Matthew Rees was in first place.

Overall winners

The overall winners in the series were: Boys 18 Holes White Tees – Justin Hastings; Boys 18 Holes Red Tees – Derek Peene; Girls 18 Holes – Holly McLean; Girls 9 Holes – Tabitha Hawkins; Boys 9 Hole Red Tees – Danny Lyne; and Boys 9 Hole Junior Tees – Matthew Rees.
