Astronomical Society meets at Pedro on Sunday

St. Ignatius students Daniel and Darci Magennis checked out the amazing sight of the moon through a large telescope.

The Cayman Islands Astronomical Society has its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Aug. 7, at Pedro Castle, starting at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

Currently, there are five planets in the sky which should be visible this weekend, said Society president Chris Cooke, who added the Pedro meeting will allow viewing of the famous “Teapot” asterism, and within the “steam” from the spout, the center of the Milky Way.

Visitors are asked to please park outside and walk in. In the event of more than 50 percent cloud cover, the meeting will be canceled.
