Police warn about handling cash in holiday season

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service is warning businesses to exercise caution over the busy holiday season while handling larger than usual amounts of cash.

In a statement released on Friday, police reminded businesses to ensure that they had security procedures in place when keeping cash on the premises or when staff were carrying money on their person.

“In addition to quantities of cash that businesses may transact, those in the service industry, such as bartenders and waiters, may also be carrying more cash than usual,” Chief Inspector Richard Barrow, head of the Financial Crime Unit said.

“Both businesses and individuals should have safety procedures for how cash is managed and transported, as well as where it is stored, even in the rush of the season, do not shortcut those procedures,” he added.
