Scholars blanked North Side 8-0 Sunday night to move into first place in the Cayman Islands Football Association Premier League. Scholars’ move into the top spot follows CIFA’s suspension of Bodden Town Football Club from league play after the team’s involvement in an assault of a referee earlier last month.

It is unclear if Bodden Town will be forced to forfeit the games that were missed while the league investigated the matter or if the matches will be made up later in the season. CIFA officials did not respond to requests for clarification by press time.

As for Scholars’ win, Kimani Finn netted a hat trick while Tevin Yen earned a brace to lead the West Bay club. Christopher Douglas wasted no time opening the scoring against the underdogs, finding the back of the net in the ninth minute. Finn then scored his first two goals over the next 15 minutes and North Side put the ball in the back of their own net in the 29th minute as the first half closed 4-0. Finn completed his hat trick early in the second half before Yen added his pair and Kevin Foster scored.

In a battle for third place, Elite SC topped Academy SC 1-0 with the lone goal coming in the second half. Both teams showcased stingy defence, going scoreless up until the 61st minute when Elite’s Christopher Reeves notched the winner.

In other games, Latinos FC defeated Alliance FC 4-1, Future SC beat Roma USC 3-1, and Sunset FC edged East End UFC 1-0.
