Santa comes early for government pensioners this year, as they are set to get an extra $150 this Christmas.

Cabinet approved the one-off ex-gratia payment at a special meeting on Tuesday, 21 Dec., a government statement announced Thursday.
This follows Tourism Minister Kenneth Bryan’s announcement earlier this month that tourism stipend recipients will receive an extra $500 this Christmas.
Minister for Finance and Economic Development Chris Saunders, welcomed the additional payment for pensioners.
“I am pleased that our government pensioners will be receiving this extra payment at Christmas; we recognise the valuable contributions that they have made during their time in the Public Service. We were able to fund this payment through budgetary savings,” Saunders said.
The extra pension payments will be disbursed to pensioners who are part of the Public Service Pensions Plan and will be deposited to recipients’ accounts Thursday.
Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service Franz Manderson expressed gratitude for the payment which he said will make pensioners’ holidays a little brighter.
“I thank my Cabinet colleagues for supporting our public service pensioners in this way. Many of them have served our beloved Islands for decades and could easily be described as the backbone of our society. We are happy to be able to give this token to them during the festive season,” Manderson said in the statement.
