Three out of five matches scheduled to kick off the Cayman Islands Football Association Men’s Premier League were forfeited on Sunday, 16 Jan.
Alliance SC, George Town SC and Latinos FC all pulled out of their respective round-one matches after failing to have enough eligible players, according to CIFA.
“[The teams did] not have enough approved players to fulfil the minimum number of players to start a match according to the FIFA Laws of The Game,” CIFA stated in an email to the Cayman Compass.
Bodden Town FC, Scholars ISC and Future SC were each awarded three points after the teams they were scheduled to play withdrew from the matches.
However, Sunset FC and Academy SC earned their three points after defeating their opponents in round one.
East End UFC welcomed Sunset to their home grounds, only to lose 1-0 despite being the favourites. In the second match, Academy defended their home pitch, defeating Elite SC 2-0.
The league is scheduled to resume this weekend 22-23 Jan. with the round-two matches.
