Promoter Ian Ellington, who was well known within the Cayman-Jamaican dancehall community as ‘Toto British’, was gunned down on Friday, 18 Feb., in his home parish of Clarendon, Jamaica.
According to reports from the Jamaica Gleaner, Ellington was in the passenger seat of a vehicle around 11:15pm when he was shot multiple times and killed. A woman who was also in the car at the time is said to have been shot while fleeing the vehicle.
Ellington was the promoter responsible for several Jamaican dancehall artists including Popcaan, Masicka, Spice and Intence, who performed in Cayman.
Previously a resident of Cayman, Ellington moved back to Jamaica after completing a two-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to being an accessory after the fact in the 2013 robbery of Chisholm’s Supermarket.
