Angel Robledo, Hridaya Yoga certified instructor, has organised a series of yoga classes in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac in order to raise money for the region of Oaxaca, Mexico, which was devastated by Hurricane Agatha.
On 30 May, Agatha made landfall on the Pacific coast of Mexico as a category 2 storm. Strong winds and rain caused significant damage to homes, schools and businesses, including the non-profit Hridaya Yoga Center in Mazunte.
The impact was even more serious further inland, with more than 10 people killed and at least 20 missing. Flash flooding, coupled with high winds, decimated small communities, which are now without essential items such as drinking water, food, clothing, and basic shelter.
The area is close to Robledo’s heart, as she has visited there a number of times in the past, so she felt compelled to do what she could.
“I have to do something to help,” she said. “These families need many resources to return to at least the modest standard of living they had before the hurricane.”
The classes are open to all, with a request for donations from those who attend.
