Police and other emergency services responded to more than 25 vehicle collisions over the past weekend, the RCIPS reported.
In one of the crashes, around 4:30am on Saturday morning between a white Kia Optima and white Toyota Belta, on Shamrock Road, by Spotts Dock, the driver of the Toyota fled the scene before police arrived.
The two occupants of the Kia sustained what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Both vehicles were badly damaged, and the crash caused a light pole to fall into the roadway, creating an obstruction which was later cleared by CUC staff.
In another incident, just before 6pm on Sunday, emergency services were called to Shamrock Road, by Grand Harbour, where a black Honda Fit had ended up on the median of the road after a collision with a green heavy equipment vehicle.
Police said the driver of the Honda, which suffered extensive damage, is believed to have sustained non-life-threatening-injuries.
“Thankfully, these incidents didn’t result in more serious outcomes for the persons involved and other road users,” Acting Superintendent Brad Ebanks said in a statement. “As such, the RCIPS wants to provide a timely reminder to motorists of the importance of driving defensively on the roadways.
“This means always being aware of your surroundings, including how you drive and being aware of other motorists and road users. Never drink and drive, follow the speed limits and give all your attention to your driving.”
Both collisions are being investigated by the police and investigators are encouraging anyone with information to call the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit at 649-6254 or the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
